A dental crown can restore chipped, fractured or damaged teeth. The tooth-shaped ‘cap’ sits over the weakened tooth to protect it, whilst matching the rest of your smile.

Differences between a dental crown and a bridge

Crowns and bridges are both corrective options used to help restore the functionality and appearance of teeth. A dental crown can restore chipped, fractured or damaged teeth. The tooth-shaped ‘cap’ sits over the weakened tooth to protect it, whilst matching the rest of your smile. A bridge is used to replace one or more missing teeth. It is fitted to the adjacent natural teeth and spans the empty space between.

About our dental crowns

Porcelain crowns are made from a hardwearing ceramic material which can be used to protect vulnerable teeth. This treatment usually requires two visits with the first appointment involving preparation to the original tooth and then an impression being made.

To create a perfect dental crown, the impression is sent away to a dental laboratory where expert technicians handcraft the new crown. They will also match it to your natural tooth shade and then during your second visit, we bond the newly prepared crown into place with a special adhesive.

We recommend you book an appointment or an oral health examination so that we can assess the condition of your teeth. We can then discuss the most suitable course of dental treatment for you, whether it’s a single dental crown or bridge, if we need to fill a gap between teeth.

All of our dental treatments are guaranteed for 12 months.

Please read our FAQs about dental crowns and bridges for a better understanding of the procedure.

What are the benefits of crowns and bridges?

A dental crown will protect your natural teeth from further damage or decay whilst also improving your bite, whereas a dental bridge can replace missing teeth.

Both options can match the natural shade of your teeth and will help complete the upper and lower rows of your teeth.

How long can I expect my crown or bridge to last?

If you take care of your teeth, you can expect your crown or bridge to last for many years. The material we use is very strong and hard wearing but by booking routine examinations with us, we can guide you to keeping your teeth healthy.

How long will it take?

Fitting a dental crown generally requires at least two visits. During the first visit, we will prepare your tooth, fit a temporary crown and make a note of the shade of your natural teeth. On the second visit, we would permanently fit the new crown.

How much does it cost?

We advise booking a consultation with us so that we can check your teeth carefully. Once we have an understanding of what’s required we will be able to provide you with a quote for treatment. Please book an appointment online or call 01702 352 450.
